Wood & Copper : My Jewelry Display at the Weekend Boutique trunk show

I LOVE designing my show display! Honestly, late the night before the show this past weekend, I was happily cutting and polishing new displays in copper to showcase my new leather choker necklaces when I suddenly realized that I was almost as excited about designing my display as I was designing the necklaces I was displaying!

I hadn't thought of that before! I have made several different displays that I use depending on the show: a quick and casual one, a completely artistic and unique one, a more traditional (with a twist), and a more high end. I'm also constantly adding, subtracting, and changing what I include in my displays. I made them all willingly and w/o much thought other than need, but now, looking back, I think I really made all the different displays as a creative outlet. They're like sculpture, but functional sculpture. Combining clarity and functionality seamlessly with design is a challenge; a challenge that I love!

Here's my latest display, actually a combo of several of my displays with, of course, some additional pieces that I decided to put in at the last minute. Including Lola, my faithful shop assistant, who made her modeling debut at the Weekend Boutique this last weekend. :)

If you have any questions on display or need ideas, ask, I'd love to offer up my opinion (another thing I love doing! ;)

Take Action Now!

This lesson is one I learned from Tracy and Robin of Flourish and Thrive Academy! I recently took their 6 week course and among all the other very awesome things they taught me (it's a jewelry specific business course) was this little tidbit they threw out after every lesson:

TAKE ACTION NOW!

I was amazed at how that one little phrase inspired me to actually do the research and worksheets that were part of the course (like actually writing out and discovering who my ideal customer is - huge one!). It's a powerful phrase in both inspiring me to actually take action and do it NOW not later! I also felt a little guilty if I didn't take action right away, which is great because sometimes I need that stab of guilt to make things happen. Part of the problem of working for myself is that I'm pretty flexible in the way I work. I don't have a boss to give me tasks so there's no guilt, or desire to please, that inspires action. It's all self-motivation, and sometimes that is lacking, lol.

Anyway, I am gaining a lot of ground in taking my business to the next level and I really attribute the inspiration for it happening to Tracy and Robin and their teaching and I wanted to share some free videos that they've produced to give you a taste of who they are. Their next course, v2, is coming up and I'm already signed up. These videos may inspire you to sign up too! If you're not ready for a full course, it's still great info for your jewelry business. I promise! :D

*Feel completely free to ask me my thoughts and experiences with them. :)

Click to view Tracy & Robin's Jewelry Biz Blueprint videos
(you do have to sign up to view the videos, but they are totally free and it's TOTALLY worth it!)

Also, this is an affiliate link, but these are free videos. I'm such a huge fan that I signed up with them to be an affiliate for their full courses and this is the link that they gave me to access the free videos. Hope you don't mind. :D

Use Your Tools!

I found a seriously cool and helpful wire gauge to mm calculator! I love this thing, check it out below.

You can either bookmark my page here and refer back to it when you want to calculate a gauge size, or you can get the widget to install on your own blog or site (just click the link below for the code).

You're welcome! ;)

Today's lesson has been scratched... and in it's stead I'm going to scream (aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh) and then say my life lesson today is to NOT try to embed code into a blog post unless you are a programmer, because obviously it's harder than it looks, lol.

I gotta go ask my programmer husband what the heck is wrong here. bbs

Ok, obviously had something to do with the blog template I was using, because now that I've changed templates (of how my blog looks) it's working fine. :D

So here it is: (bookmark mine or create your own)

First Lesson...

do as I say, not as I do ;)

Don't get a great idea for a new blog when you have a bazillion other things going on in your life!

I always seem to think of great ideas when I have so many other things on my plate? As I'm writing this post, I'm actually thinking it's simply procrastination! Somehow, my brain thinks of the cleverest ways to get me to procrastinate! Now if I could just retrain it to think working is actually procrastinating, all would be golden!

Anyway, welcome to my new blog. Directed at my fellow jewelry designers, but here for all to enjoy, I hope I provide some great l.o.l. moments. :)
